We’re excited to announce the Midwest Tri-State Chukar Championship, happening Saturday, July 12th at our training grounds near Sioux Falls!
This is not a NAVHDA test — it’s a fun, friendly competition designed to get you and your dog into birds, raise money for the club, and spend a great day outdoors with fellow handlers. E-collars are allowed, and we encourage you to hunt your dog just like you would during pheasant season. Let’s keep it real, enjoyable, and productive.
Event Details
-
Date: Saturday, July 12th
-
Location: NAVHDA Training Grounds – Sioux Falls
-
Start Time: 7:00 AM
-
End Time: 5:30 PM
-
Entry Fee: $125 per dog
-
Dog Slots: 22 total (first come, first served)
Competition Format
We’ll be running two divisions:
Each dog will run through four fields, with one chukar planted in each. If birds are missed by the previous dog, they stay in play — giving the next dog an opportunity for more finds.
You’re not required to get one bird per field — if your dog finds and harvests all four in the first field, great! The run ends after four birds or 20 minutes, whichever comes first.
Scoring includes:
If a dog scoops a bird (catches it instead of pointing/flushing), the bird will be re-thrown 10 yards to simulate a realistic shot and retrieve.
All handlers must check in 1 hour before their scheduled run. You may not observe bird planting for your dog or for the three dogs before you.
Trophies & Prizes
We’ll have trophies and prizes for the top-performing dogs in each division — so bring your A-game and get ready for some bragging rights!
If we get enough sign-ups, we’ll also open a second field to run a Chukar Challenge brace competition in the afternoon — great for those wanting to work dogs in pairs and simulate even more realistic field hunting.
Lunch Included
We’ll be grilling lunch at the grounds:
