Midwest Tri-State Chukar Championship Series – Event #3

Join us for the final event of the 2026 Midwest Tri-State Chukar Championship Series, followed by a one-time Bracework Championship, barbecue, and the annual chapter meeting.
This is not a NAVHDA test. It is a fun competitive, hunting-style event focused on productive dog work, safe shooting, retrieves, and efficiency. E-collars are allowed. Use as many commands as you want.
Event #3: Chukar Championship
- Location: Sioux Falls NAVHDA Training Grounds
- Entry Fee: $125 per dog
- Divisions: Open and Puppy
- Run Time: 20 minutes maximum
- Bird Limit: Four harvested birds per dog
- Series Format: Best two of three event finishes count toward the season championship.
Event Scoring
- Established points (minimum two seconds): 75 points each
- Retrieves within one step of handler: 45 points each
- Birds harvested: 200 points each
- Unused time: 60 points per minute and 1 point per second
Runs end when four birds are harvested or 20 minutes expires. Birds missed by previous dogs remain in play.
One-Time Bracework Championship
Immediately following the individual Chukar Championship runs, we will hold a one-time Bracework Championship for fun, trophies, and bragging rights.
- Entry Fee: $75 per dog
- Dogs will be randomly drawn into two-dog braces at the time of the run.
- Four birds will be placed in the field, one per quadrant.
- Each brace has 20 minutes and up to eight shots.
- The brace ends after four birds are harvested.
Bracework Scoring
- Unused shells: 60 points each
- Points: 75 points each
- Backs: 75 points each
- Retrieves to hand: 45 points each
- Birds harvested: 200 points each
- Both dogs record a point: 180-point bonus
- Unused time: 60 points per minute and 1 point per second
Judges will evaluate a dog’s awareness of a back. A handler may whoa a dog into a back, but the dog must demonstrate that it recognized the backing situation. After the back, the handler may collar the dog to allow a retrieve.\ If a dog scoops a bird, the bird will be tossed approximately 10 yards away and must be re-retrieved to hand.
Bracework awards will be trophies only. Any tie for first place will be decided by a sudden-death runoff.
Barbecue and Annual Meeting
We will move directly from the Chukar Championship and Bracework Championship into a barbecue at the training grounds, followed by the annual chapter meeting.
- Annual Meeting: 6:00 PM
- Lunch/Barbecue: Free for competitors and bird planters; $10 for guests and spectators
- Start Time: The event start time will be determined by the number of entries so we can finish the competitions, eat, and begin the annual meeting at 6:00 PM.
Safe gun handling, sportsmanship, and judges’ decisions are required and final.
